This truly Native American flower came to India via USSR in the late 1960s. They are cultivated mostly in tropical regions and blossoms during midsummers. Belonging to the Helianthus genus, they follow the movement of the sun across the sky from east to west, and this process is known as heliotropism.

Sunflowers are known to absorb toxins from the environment and dried sunflower makes for an excellent bird feeder.
